I've made 2 sizes: a 3.4oz, 1/2 diameter block planes and a 4.6oz, 5/8 diameter for wooden planes. You can tap the brass face of the hammer directly on the back of the plane blade without risk of damage while the leather face will firmly set a wooden wedge.
